Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has demanded that Russia be kicked out of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization; because of the impact of its conflict in Ukraine on global food shortages. The phone call is most likely purely symbolic. The FAO is made up of all 193 UN member countries.

“There can also be no doubt about Russia’s ongoing participation in the FAO the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization,” Zelensky said in an address to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. “What does Russia have to do there if it is striving to starve at least 400 million people; and maybe more than a billion?”
