Priti Patel has revealed that the first deportation aircraft to Rwanda, carrying persons who entered the UK without authorization, will depart on June 14th.

Officials said the Home Office has delivered legal letters to a group of asylum seekers telling them that they would be moved to the east African country.

Few specifics regarding the number of persons planned to be flown to Rwanda in this initial trip, as well as how they were identified, remain unknown. Officials said individuals who will be deported are already in custody, and the administration expects a barrage of legal challenges to their deportation.

According to a statement from the government, “the Home Office has commenced issuing official removal instruction letters to those who are slated to move to Rwanda where they will be able to rebuild their lives in safety.”

Following the issuance of “notices of intent” to scores of persons who entered the UK illegally, this is the next legal step.

The announcement’s timing will raise suspicions. It comes as pressure mounts on Boris Johnson to deliver policy wins, with reports that he might face a no-confidence vote as early as next week.

“Our world-leading relationship with Rwanda is a critical component of our effort to revamp the flawed asylum system and disrupt the vile people-smugglers’ business model,” Patel said in a statement.

“Announcement today is another crucial step in delivering that partnership, and while we know that attempts will now be made to stymie the process and prolong removals, I will not be deterred and will remain completely dedicated to delivering what the British public expects.”

According to authorities, the removal directive document states that someone would be going to Rwanda and when.

“The Rwanda program isn’t about discouraging criminal gangs or small boat crossings, it’s about seeking headlines regardless of reality,” said Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary.

“This is an utterly impractical, exorbitantly costly, and very un-British strategy. There is no established procedure for identifying victims of human trafficking or torture.”

Access to legal counsel and mental health help for persons who are notified they may be subject to the Rwanda removal policy has been a source of concern for campaigners.

After learning that he will be deported to Rwanda, an Afghan man who came to the UK as a kid attempted suicide, according to the Independent. After being detained at Brook House deportation camp last month, Hakim Khan, 32, claimed he would “rather die.”

Officials from the Home Office said they’re interacting with everyone to make sure everyone understands the procedure and gets the help they need before they leave.

“On arriving in Rwanda, there is a significant assistance package that includes up to five years of training, housing, and healthcare.”

The UK will spend an initial £120 million in Rwanda’s economic development and growth as part of this cooperation, according to the announcement. When the Rwanda agreement was revealed last month, Johnson stated that thousands of individuals will be transported 4,000 miles (6,500 kilometres) to have their requests processed.

Ministers wanted to see early indications that being transported to Rwanda would disrupt the economic model of people smugglers operating in the Channel.
