After a van suspected of being stolen travelled the wrong way down a highway and collided head-on with a cab, a 15-year-old kid was detained.

Three persons were killed in a crash on the M606 near the Chain Bar junction in Bradford at around 10.45 p.m. last night.

Both the 28-year-old taxi driver and the man passenger he was transporting died on the spot.

The 18-year-old passenger in the van died this morning in hospital, while another, 17-year-old, is being treated for significant but non-life-threatening injuries.

Because a police vehicle was in the area at the time, West Yorkshire Police reported the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The driver, who is 15 years old, was detained on suspicion of causing death by unsafe driving and is still hospitalized with critical but non-life threatening injuries.

Before travelling the wrong way around the roundabout and onto the southbound carriage of the highway towards Bradford, the van failed to stop for designated police cars.

The highway was shut down overnight and reopened about 10 a.m. today.

An IPOC spokesperson said: ‘We understand that a Ford Transit van failed to stop for police before it was involved in a collision with a taxi after the van entered the M606 on the wrong side of the carriageway.’

‘IOPC investigators are attending the scene and the police post-incident procedure.’
