A mother of two was issued a restraining order and made to pay compensation after suggesting a transgender lady was a paedophile.

Ivy Burrows and Chinzia Ogilvie got into an argument on Twitter about whether she should be allowed to use ‘female facilities,’ such as changing rooms.

A judge heard how their seven-hour argument turned sour.

Prosecutor Graham Heath told the court that Ogilvie, of Portsmouth, made inappropriate comments about the victim’s genitalia that made her feel “disgusted, violated, and degraded.”

Following the talks, Ms. Burrows was reported to be ‘scared’ and ‘distressed,’ with the possibility that she was a paedophile raised.

Ogilvie, who wore a badge that read ‘transwomen are men,’ had previously expressed ‘diametrically opposed ideas’ on the platform with Ivy, also from Portsmouth.

She was accused of sending Ms. Burrows transphobic communications that ‘encouraged hate.’

Defending attorney Tim Sparkes maintained that Ms. Burrows was not a “weak victim,” but rather a “political activist” who initiated the conversation and was also the first to utter a disparaging term.

‘Her harassment made it difficult for me to be out in Portsmouth as a transgender woman.’

Ogilvie’s opinions were not unlawful, but her ‘conduct became criminal’ with the inflammatory texts ‘demonstrating animosity,’ according to district judge David Robinson.

‘The comments seen by Ivy and others humiliated and degraded her, and attempted to sexualize her and indicate she was a paedophile,’ he continued.

Ogilvie was sentenced to a one-year community service order that included 120 hours of unpaid community service and 15 days of rehabilitation.

She was also ordered to pay £300 in damages, a £95 surcharge, and £85 in costs, as well as a 12-month restraining order not to contact the victim.
