fire destroys a residence in Newton Center
The cause of a late-night, four-alarm fire at a residence in Newton, Massachusetts; is being looked into by state and local fire officials. Flames could be seen shooting from the house on Gray Cliff Road; just off Beacon Street, in video taken at the site.
Around 11:15, while rescuers worked to put out the flames; a sizable portion of the house seemed to collapse.
According to Newton Fire authorities, the house was fully involved in flames; when they initially got at the scene about 10:30. They also had problems with the water supply.
Deputy Chief Eric Fricke remarked, “This is a challenging street; we’re on top of a hill. The firemen had to work especially hard to get enough water to the home to fight; that amount of fire since there isn’t a lot of hydrant coverage up here.
No one was home when the fire started, according to the firefighters.
There were no reported injuries.
