Kate Bedingfield, who was set to quit her role as White House communications director, has elected to stay.

A long-time adviser to President Joe Biden will leave in August and return in September, according to a White House official.

“A massive thank you to everyone (every. one.) who endured listening to me wax on about how I regretted my decision to leave,” Bedingfield wrote on Twitter. “There’s so much more to do and I’m so proud and grateful to be part of this team. Onward!”

According to a second official, Bedingfield was requested to stay on until Biden, who just contracted COVID-19, tested negative and was later asked to stay on indefinitely. She concurred.

Ms. Bedingfield has been Mr. Biden’s primary adviser since his second tenure as Vice President. She was one of the creators of the message of national restoration that propelled him through the primaries and the general election during his 2020 presidential campaign. However, several Democrats have claimed that the president’s messaging has been insufficiently focused, powerful, sustained, or authoritative since taking office.

Nonetheless, one communication from the president’s communicator was received with open arms in the West Wing “I’m excited that this isn’t me sending you all a sappy ‘this is my last day’ note,” Ms. Bedingfield wrote in her email, “and so excited for all that is to come.”
