“The time to begin saving lives is now”.  Nancy Rotering, the mayor of Highland Park, concluded her appearance before Congressmen; by pleading for a ban on assault rifles. She shared her first-hand story of the massacre at her community’s Fourth of July parade; which left seven people dead and at least 48 others wounded and injured; with members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a piece of legislation that was first submitted in the Illinois General Assembly more than 16 months ago; and calls for a statewide ban on assault weapons has been given fresh life.
