Palestinian captives are still on a hunger strike in Israeli Jail

Two Palestinian prisoners remain in critical condition in Israeli prisons.
Raed Rayan and Khalil Awawdeh have been on hunger strike for 102 days and 16 days respectively.
They are protesting their detention without trial, said the Detainees Affairs Commission.

According to the Detainees Affairs Commission, two Palestinian detainees who have been on indefinite hunger strikes; in protest of their living circumstances and being held without charge or trial are still in severe condition; within Israeli jails.

According to the Palestinian Wafa Agency, Raed Rayan and Khalil Awawdeh; have both been on a hunger strike for 102 days and 16 days; respectively, and are both claimed to be experiencing major health issues.

The notorious Ramla Prison facility in Israel has been holding 27-year-old Rayan from the Beit Duqqu town; northwest of Jerusalem, since November 2021. Upon his arrest, he was handed a six-month administrative detention order. When his incarceration was later extended for another six months in April; he decided to go on a hunger strike.

Awawdeh, 40, of Ida, Hebron district, has been on a hunger strike for sixteen days. He ended his 111-day hunger strike last month after Israeli officials; verbally agreed to let him out from his administrative imprisonment.

The father of four is apparently back on a hunger strike, though, after the Israeli government; reportedly changed its mind, according to Wafa. He is still present at Shamir Hospital, previously Assaf Harofeh; which is located southeast of Tel Aviv.

Awawdeh was formerly housed at Ramleh Prison until his health suddenly deteriorated last month; causing him to lose weight quickly and experience excruciating headaches and joint discomfort.

He has been detained five times in the past, three; of which occurred while he was being held without charge or imminent release; under the administrative detention system.

Israel continues to carry out its administrative detention policy; which permits the incarceration of Palestinians for up to six months without indictment; or trial and is renewable indefinitely.

Palestinians are frequently detained by Israeli authorities based on “undisclosed evidence”.
