The Mercedes-Benz driver who triggered a multi-car disaster at a West Los Angeles crossroads on Thursday that killed six people has been identified.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) identified Nicole Lorraine Linton, a 37-year-old nurse.

In the crash, Linton sustained moderate injuries and was arrested on an accusation of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

Prosecutors indicated that they could receive the case as early as Monday, at which point they would determine whether to press criminal charges.

Reports say that Linton works as a travelling nurse for Kaiser Permanente at the West Los Angeles Medical Center.

Authorities say Linton was going more than 100 miles per hour (mph) in a 35 mph zone.

The CHP reported the Mercedes vehicle ran a red light and never appeared to brake. Officer Franco Pepi told the AP that police are investigating whether Linton had a medical crisis or was driving drunk.

Witnesses in Windsor Hills said the collision generated a bomb-like boom.

A child who was flung from a car landed in a gas station.

Alphonso Word stated, “One lady took the baby that was ejected, she was running into the store with the child, but you could tell there was no life there.”

“I think the devastating part was you heard the scream. I don’t know if it was one of the victims that was in the car burning, or what,” he added.

Asherey Ryan, 23 years old, her unborn child, and her newborn son were reportedly killed in the collision. According to her sister, they were on their way to a prenatal doctor’s visit.

In the collision, an infant was also killed and seven others were injured.

Pepi said that the other people who were hurt had minor injuries. They were a woman who was 33 years old and six children who were between 1 and 15 years old.
