Brittney Griner’s conviction for smuggling drugs into the nation will stand as a result of the Moscow Regional Court’s decision to uphold the earlier ruling from the Khimki local court. Griner is a famous US basketball player.

Griner’s nine-year prison term will be reduced slightly as a result of the judge’s decision to take into account the time spent in custody since February 17. The judge determined that each day Griner spent in pre-trial detention would count as 1.5 days of her prison term. It is yet unclear just how much her sentence will be reduced as a result.

According to one of Griner’s attorneys, Alexander Boykov of the Moscow Legal Center, the verdict indicates that the “legal process will be essentially ended.”
