According to Ukraine’s spy head, Russia is moving more troops into the important southern city of Kherson and may be getting ready to defend it.

Earlier, Ukraine made the suggestion that some Russian units would be departing.

Earlier in the conflict, Russia captured Kherson; however, pressure increases as Ukrainian forces march down the Dnipro River.

Thousands of citizens are told to leave the city by Russian officials.

The head of Ukrainian intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, called it an “information operation” and claimed Moscow was “trying to create the idea that everything is lost.”

He said that the relocation of residents is a ruse to save face in the event that the city is taken over by Ukraine. The Russian military is sending in more troops and prepping the streets for defense, he claimed.

This contradicts Kyiv’s prior assertion that the occupying forces were relocating from the city. They aren’t getting ready to go right now, he said.

The precise movements of the troops from either side on the ground are not confirmed by the BBC. The potential of a severe battle in the upcoming weeks grows with the report that Russian troops are reportedly digging in.

Since the beginning of October, Ukraine is moving closer to Kherson. According to the troops, it recaptures around 90 villages in the area, home to 12,000 people.

Men will have the “option” to join the militia formations, according to the Kherson officials nominated by Russia on Monday.

Serhiy Bratchuk, a Ukrainian military spokesman in Odesa, asserted that this was merely a cover for enlisting local men in the Russian army.

Russian would suffer a severe blow if they lost in Kherson.

It serves as the capital of one of the four regions that President Putin tried to annex after holding so-called referendums.

It is also the only foothold on the western bank of the Dnipro River, which flows through Ukraine, and the only regional capital to have been taken since the invasion in February.

Additionally, the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea is controlled by the Kherson province.
