Russian President Vladimir Putin is in charge of military training exercises on Wednesday that included mock launching of ballistic and cruise missiles. According to a Kremlin statement.

“At the Kura range in Kamchatka, the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome and the Sineva ballistic missile was launched from the Barents Sea,” the statement said.

According to the statement, practice firing of the air-based cruise missiles were conducted using Russian Tu-95MS military jets.

During the training exercises, Sergei Shoigu, the country’s defence minister, gave a report to Putin, the supreme commander-in-chief of the Russian army.

Shoigu claims that under Putin’s direction, the strategic deterrent forces are practising “a major nuclear strike in reaction to an enemy nuclear attack.”

According to the Kremlin statement, assessments of the military command’s level of readiness as well as the operational staff’s and leadership’s organizational abilities were made.
