After the midterm elections, US President Joe Biden’s Democrats are anticipated to win Arizona.

CBS believes Democrat Mark Kelly beat Republican Blake Masters three days after the election.

That gives Democrats 49 seats and Republicans 49.

Only Nevada and Georgia remain.

Nevada’s contest will be decided by a run-off election next month.

If Democrats win one of the two remaining races, the vice president can cast a tie-breaking vote on their behalf.

After Tuesday’s elections, votes from a handful of districts are still being counted.

If Republicans win one or both chambers of Congress, they might frustrate Mr. Biden’s program.

Mr. Kelly, a former astronaut whose wife, Gabby Giffords, survived an assassination attempt as a US legislator, was first elected two years ago to finish John McCain’s Senate term.

Mr. Kelly said, “This campaign has been about the many Arizonans – Democrats, Independents, and Republicans – who believe in working together to tackle our difficulties.”

“I’ve done it in my first two years in office and will keep doing it.”

Mr. Masters, a 36-year-old venture capitalist, was endorsed by former President Trump. He rejected the 2020 election results and falsely claimed fraud.

The Masters campaign solicited for donations in an email to supporters Thursday, the New York Times reported.

“We expect legal battles,” it said.

Republicans were expecting for a “red wave” – an electoral rout that would shame Joe Biden and the Democrats.

While the party scored modest gains and appears favored to take the House, the Senate remains highly contested and the Democrats did better than expected.

Biden claimed the election was “positive for US democracy.”

Congress, made up of the House and Senate, holds midterm elections.

Congress passes laws nationwide. The House votes on laws, whereas the Senate blocks or approves them, confirms presidential appointees, and rarely investigates him.

These votes occur every two years during the president’s four-year term.

Each state has two six-year senators. Representatives represent two-year districts.

Midterm elections included all House seats and one-third of the Senate.

Several states elect governors and local authorities.
