Iranian police shoots on mourners of female protester
Iranian security forces opened fire on crowds that had assembled in the vicinity of Tehran to mark the fortieth day after a woman had been killed during a protest, according to witnesses.
The Iranian government has shut down a cemetery and blocked roadways in order to prevent people from going to the burial site of Hadis Najafi, who has come to be seen as a symbol of the unrest that is sweeping the country.
Videos showed large groups of protesters making their way to the Karaj cemetery while screaming slogans critical of the government as they travelled along a street.
According to witnesses who spoke to the media channel, security personnel responded to the threat by using live ammunition.
They said that undercover police personnel had also used machetes to attack citizens.
A video that was authenticated by media channel Persian and filmed in the area around the cemetery captured a shotgun blast as well.
