In a speech at the opening of the World Leaders Summit at the COP27 UN climate conference, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called for an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The entire world is suffering because of the war between Russia and Ukraine,” Sisi said. “This war must stop, this war, and the suffering it has caused, must finish.

In the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, where thousands of climate negotiators and advocates will gather to raise their ambitions on the climate crisis, the United Nations Climate Summit (UN Climate Summit) is being held for the first time this year. Over the course of the next two weeks, negotiators from close to two hundred countries will meet to discuss future proposals for clean energy in an effort to avert the most severe effects of the climate crisis.

Sisi issued a call to action to world leaders, urging them to take “more measures and actions” immediately to clarify how they will reduce emissions. She hoped that by doing so, stakeholders would be encouraged to release “adequate funding” to address the issue of climate change.

“For the sake of future generations, there is no time to sit back, there is no space for hesitation,” Sisi said. “There is no time to sit back.”
