Officials reported that he was trapped at roughly 55 feet in the 400-foot-deep hole, prompting the beginning of a rescue mission to liberate him.

However, a local police official stated that when rescuers arrived at the scene on Saturday morning, he was not responsive.

The official told Media: “Local police, fire fighters, home guards and the state disaster response force personnel were struggling ever since the boy fell in the borewell in Mandawi area.

“Early morning around 05:30 the teams managed to reach the boy by digging a parallel hole.”

When the youngster was transported to the hospital, the staff there pronounced him “brought dead.” Now, a post-mortem will be performed.

Rescue personnel had been trying to excavate a tunnel alongside the borewell for the previous four days.

Although the youngster was receiving oxygen, medical personnel were unable to assess his condition due to the layers of dirt.

According to Home Guards commandant S. R. Azmi, the delay in the rescue efforts was caused by the presence of stony layers below the surface.

Numerous farmers in India installed borewells—deep wells sunk into the earth to extract water—for irrigation due to a lack of water.

These wells are abandoned after they dry up and are left exposed, posing a major risk to bystanders, especially young children.

In India, several kids have suffocated to death after falling into small borewells.
