A 12-year-old London schoolboy has died from a severe case of strep. Six additional children in the UK have passed away due to complications caused by the disease since September. There have been eight confirmed cases of severe strep disease in Scotland, but no fatalities.

A child who was 12 years old and from London has passed away after suffering from a severe case of strep. An infection caused by bacteria.

The staff at Colfe’s School in Lee, London, where the year 8 student studied, stated that the tragedy came as a complete and utter surprise to them.

Even though deaths like this one are extremely uncommon, six additional children in the UK have passed away due to complications caused by the disease since September.

Five of those six people were under the age of five when they were in England. The other victim was a Welsh child who was seven years old.

There have been eight confirmed cases of severe strep disease in Scotland, but no fatalities have been reported. It is unknown whether there are any cases that are currently being investigated in Wales and Northern Ireland.

Richard Russell, the Headmaster of Colfe’s School, stated that: “This completely unforeseen tragedy has had an effect on every member of the school community, including the students, the teachers, and the parents. We are providing whatever assistance we can to the student’s family as they attempt to come to terms with the unimaginable loss they have suffered.”

The infectious disease that is spreading earlier than usual this year requires parents and medical professionals to be extra cautious and to set a lower standard of care for patients seeking treatment for the condition.

As the levels of the bacteria that are thought to be circulating currently are thought to be high, they say that the UK needs to prepare itself for more cases.

The majority of strep A infections are not severe and respond well to antibiotic treatment. However, some people who contract the illness develop severe symptoms.
