  • Folkestone demonstrators demanded safe migrant routes.
  • Churches, a mosque, and politicians supported the march.
  • 39 people were rescued from a dinghy Wednesday morning.

Following the deaths of four individuals in the Channel, protesters have assembled on the beach in Folkestone to call for the establishment of safe migration routes.

After a dinghy got into trouble early on Wednesday morning, 39 individuals had to be rescued to safety so that the vessel can continue its journey.

The demonstration received support from local churches, a mosque, and politicians affiliated with the Labor Party, the Liberal Democrats, and the Green Party, according to the event’s organizer, Bridget Chapman.

The Home Office has stated that it will “move further and faster” in its efforts to combat the gangs that are responsible for driving the crossings.

On Tuesday, the government announced additional measures to prohibit people from crossing the border illegally by boat.

These new measures include the establishment of a new command center and increased financing to combat immigration crime.

During the demonstration that took place on Saturday, participants observed one minute of silence, scrawled “No More Deaths” in the sand, and lay flowers.

Ms. Chapman mentioned that it had just been a few weeks after the anniversary of the other dinghy sinking in the Channel on November 24, 2021, which resulted in the deaths of at least 27 persons.
