According to local media, the head of the Mossad intelligence agency in Israel stated Thursday that Iran is attempting to increase its supply of advanced weapons to Russia.

David Barnea’s warning comes after the United States expressed concern earlier this month over a “comprehensive defense partnership” between Tehran and Moscow, which invaded Ukraine in February.

Tehran revealed in November that it had transferred drones to Russia, but argued that the delivery occurred prior to the assault.

During a ceremony for the Jewish Hanukkah holiday, Barnea was quoted as saying, “We warn against Iran’s future intentions, which they are trying to keep secret, to deepen and expand the supply of advanced weapons to Russia, to expand the uranium enrichment project and to intensify their attacks against friendly Muslim countries in the region.”

Israeli President Isaac Herzog suggested at the end of October that he had communicated with Washington evidence that, according to Israeli intelligence, demonstrated the use of Iranian drones in the Ukraine conflict.

On December 9, Washington outlined comprehensive cooperation between Iran and Russia involving equipment such as helicopters, fighter jets, and drones, the latter of which resulted in the imposition of fresh US sanctions.

Moscow’s envoy to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, answered in the Security Council that Russia’s military-industrial complex “doesn’t need anyone’s assistance” and that the drone allegations have been repeatedly rejected.

Last week, British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly stated that the Tehran dictatorship, which has endured more than three months of public protests, was “making shady agreements” with Moscow “in a desperate attempt to survive.”

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom stated that Iran-made drones supplied to Russia played a “central role” in assaults against civilian targets in Ukraine.

Iran’s foreign ministry stated in a statement released on Sunday that it would not “ask permission from anyone” to deepen ties with Russia.

“Cooperation between Iran and Russia in various fields including defence is expanding within the framework of common interests… and is not against any third country,” said Nasser Kanani, spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry.

Iran and Israel have waged a shadow war for years. Iran denies Israel’s claim that it seeks to build a nuclear weapon.
