Gunmen assaulted a hotel in Kabul  on Monday, the capital of Afghanistan, leaving several others injured.

According to Khalid Zadran, the police chief’s spokesman, the incident began at 2:30 p.m. local time in Kabul’s commercial Shar-e-Naw neighborhood with citizens inside the building.

A local resident who witnessed the shooting that ensued after the hotel was stormed told Media that it happened.

Security troops were dispatched by police to the spot, and an operation to clear the area was started. According to a tweet from Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mojahid on Monday, the attack resulted in the deaths of all three militants and the safe evacuation of hotel guests.

No foreign nationals were murdered, but two were injured after jumping off the rooftop, according to Mojahid.

Five Chinese citizens were among the injured, said Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, addressed reporters during a briefing on Tuesday.

Videos of the incident, which included smoke rising out of one level and gunshots, were posted on Twitter by a journalist in Kabul and confirmed by Media. A person was also seen attempting to flee the attack by jumping out of a hotel window.

Afterward, an emergency non-profit in Kabul reported that it received 21 wounded at their hospital located near the incident, including three who were dead on arrival – apart from the three terrorists murdered.

A day after meeting with the deputy foreign minister of Afghanistan to address security-related issues and to request more attention for the protection of its embassy, China’s ambassador was attacked.

China’s state-run news agency said the attack happened near a Chinese guesthouse and its embassy in Kabul was closely following the situation.

A bombing at the Pakistani embassy earlier this month and a suicide explosion close to the Russian mission in September are just a few of the recent attacks in Afghanistan. Both attacks were claimed by the Islamic State.
