One person was killed on Wednesday when more than 200 vehicles collided on a bridge in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou amid dense fog, claimed rescuers and the state network CCTV.

Images and videos shared on social media showed cars and trucks piled on top of one another and collapsed on the Zhengxin Huanghe bridge.

The image was captured from CCTV footage, and it showed one automobile jackknifed in the center of a heap.

“This is too scary. Full of people here, I don’t think we can get off the bridge,” one person can be heard saying in one video clip.

According to official media, the fire service dispatched 11 fire engines and 66 fire rescue personnel to assist several of the injured who were trapped in their vehicles.

The meteorological service said that on Wednesday morning, visibility was frequently less than 500 meters and occasionally as low as 200 meters.
