‘Illegal migration is not fair’: says UK PM Rishi Sunak
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has requested an evaluation of the war’s development in Ukraine. Senior officials worry that the PM is being unduly cautious as the war enters a crucial phase.
According to a Whitehall source, the exercise resembled a “Goldman Sachs dashboard” analysis of the conflict and the use of UK military supplies.
Mr. Sunak, according to Downing Street, is a fervent supporter of Ukraine.
On his first abroad trip as prime minister, Mr. Sunak visited Ukraine last month and tweeted that the UK was “with Ukraine all the way.”
However, some parts of Whitehall are concerned about the request because military leaders believe that Ukraine’s access to weaponry could be crucial throughout the coming winter.
The source said: “Wars aren’t won [by dashboards]. Wars are won on instinct. At the start of this it was Boris (Johnson) sitting down and saying: ‘Let’s just go for this.’ So Rishi needs to channel his inner Boris on foreign policy though not of course on anything else.”
The source said the audit, known as a data-driven assessment, is designed to assess the progress of the war and the significance of the UK’s military contributions to Ukraine.
The source said: “This is about looking at what we have put in, what we have got out.”
Since the invasion of Ukraine by the armies of Russian President Vladimir Putin in February, the UK has been among the largest providers of military assistance to that nation.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, is aware of the discussion taking place in the UK and is urging Mr. Sunak to continue providing his nation with a robust military presence.
The insider claimed that President Zelensky “had felt what is going on.” “He has thus been conversing with Rishi.
He’s attempting to motivate him by telling him that the UK has been a wonderful liberator and fighter. We require you. Adapt to that.”
The recommended evaluation of the war is being offered at a pivotal time in the conflict. Whitehall insiders are of the opinion that Ukraine and Russia are at a halt in their conflict.
They assert that one side can only gain the upper hand by significantly expanding their arsenal. In essence, Russia is out of supplies.
Only with assistance from the US and the major European military powers, headed by the UK, can Ukraine resupply its arsenal.
