Rep. Warren Davidson of Ohio nominated House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy for speaker once more after McCarthy failed to receive enough votes to win in three rounds on Tuesday and another round on Wednesday.

“We’re on the precipice of such a destructive argument today. I plead with all, all of my Republican colleagues: let cooler, more rational heads prevail. Let us unite as Republicans to elect the next speaker of the House,” he said in his nomination speech.

McCarthy told Media earlier that he was not worried if his opposition grew on the fourth ballot. “It doesn’t matter — I have the most votes,” he said.

The fifth round of voting for speaker in the House of Representatives has started.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is the Democratic Party’s front-runner.

In a deadlock that has now lasted two days after the House adjourned following three straight votes on Tuesday, Republicans have chosen Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who has now failed to win the majority four times.

Rep. Byron Donalds has once more been put forward as McCarthy’s opponent by Republicans. On the fourth ballot earlier today, Donalds garnered 20 votes.

With 20 Republicans supporting Florida Rep. Byron Donalds over Rep. Kevin McCarthy in his fourth try to win the House speaker’s gavel, Rep. Kevin McCarthy was unsuccessful.

The organisation decided to endorse Donalds instead of Ohio Representative Jim Jordan. Additionally, Indiana Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz cast a present vote, bringing McCarthy’s threshold down to 217.

Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the Democratic Party, had the support of the entire group.
