US airlines have forced the cancel more than 1,000 flights into or out of the country strong due to a winter storm Monday into or out of the United States, with Southwest Airlines Co. accounting for almost half of those flights.

As of 6:00 p.m. ET, 1,019 flights had been canceled overall, according to flight tracking service FlightAware.

Due to poor weather and antiquated technology, low-cost carrier Southwest earlier this month came under fire from the US authorities for canceling 16,700 flights over the holidays.

Approximately 12% of the company’s Monday schedule has been canceled, while American Airlines Group Inc has canceled 6% or 200 flights.

The new cancellations occur while the American aviation industry is recovering from a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-imposed national ground stop due to a computer problem.

797 flights into or out of the United States are currently slated to be canceled on Tuesday.

Winter weather exemptions have been provided by Southwest Carriers and other significant American airlines. If a customer stays in the same cabin as initially reserved, a waiver enables them to amend their travel plans without incurring additional costs.
