Police officer dies after alleged Hungary stabbing
A guy is accused of stabbing a police officer in Budapest to death on Thursday while he was attempting to elude capture.
At around 22:10 CET (21:10 GMT), reports that a guy was attempting to enter a flat in District XI of Hungary’s capital prompted police to be sent to the location.
Before fleeing onto the street and being shot by a fourth officer and taken into custody, the man hurt three police officers.
A police statement described the alleged perpetrator as a “crazed man with a knife”.
All of the injured police officers and the alleged attacker were taken to the hospital, where Peter Baumann, 29, died.
According to the Hungarian police, the man was the district XI deputy and would have been 30 next month.
According to the police department in Hungary, a black flag will be flown above police headquarters, and service vehicles will be marked with a mourning ribbon.
Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary, promised that the Baumann family will get assistance from the state.
