Republicans accuse US President Joe Biden of hypocrisy
Republicans have accused US President Joe Biden of hypocrisy, following the discovery of additional sensitive documents at his Delaware residence.
“If you live in a glass house, don’t throw stones,” Nebraska congressman Don Bacon told ABC’s This Week.
At least 20 documents from Mr. Biden’s time serving as vice president have been discovered at his home and office in Washington, D.C.
When Donald Trump’s residence was searched for confidential documents, he criticized him.
“How could anyone be that irresponsible?” he said at the time.
A special counsel is looking into Mr. Trump in relation to the numerous secret documents that were discovered at his Mar-a-Lago resort last year.
Because archivists claimed his team was not turning over all the records they had identified as missing, an FBI raid was conducted.
The contents of the documents discovered in Mr. Biden’s possession are unknown, although some of them were reportedly designated “Top Secret,” the highest level of classification, according to Media.
At the end of a presidency, all White House records are required by law to be turned over to the National Archives. A special prosecutor is currently looking into the matter.
A number of Republicans accused Mr. Biden of having two sets of standards on Sunday on the radio and television.
James Comer of Kentucky, the new chair of the House oversight committee, told reupdated media outlet: “While he was doing this [accusing Trump], he knew very well that he himself had possession of classified documents so the hypocrisy here is great.”
The White House has not said how long Mr. Biden was aware that the records were in his possession, but they maintain that his lawyers immediately turned them over after discovering them.
He admitted that learning they had been discovered there surprised him and that he takes the handling of sensitive information extremely seriously.
Days before the midterm elections, on November 2, the first batch in his former office was discovered; nevertheless, it wasn’t until last week that this information was made public.
Former top aide to Mr. Trump’s vice president, Mike Pence, Marc Short, suggested on Sunday that the information was purposefully kept to avoid the closing days of the election campaign.
To find out who might have had access to the information, some Republicans have requested that visitor logs to Mr. Biden’s homes be made public.
