The two low-cost carriers advise employees who lost their employment as a result of the demise of regional airline Flybe to apply for positions with them.

On Saturday, Flybe entered administration, which resulted in the layoff of 277 employees.

The British Airline Pilots’ Association (Balpa) reported that anxious Flybe employees had called it in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Martin Chalk, the union’s leader, asserted that there were jobs “out there.”

EasyJet reported having 250 open positions for cabin crew.

Ryanair announced on its website’s careers page that it had openings in all categories, including pilots, engineers, and ground staff.

“Of course there is upset and concern,” said Mr. Chalk, Balpa general secretary.

When Flybe went under three years ago, several employees had already gone through something comparable, he claimed.

When this occurred, the airline laid off 2,000 employees before relaunching in April of the following year.

“The advantage is, this time around, the market is somewhat more buoyant than it was, now that Covid is largely in the rear view mirror,” said Mr. Chalk.

A replay of last year’s crisis, in which staffing shortages forced thousands of flights to be cancelled, leaving passengers stranded and demanding compensation, is something that airlines are likewise determined to prevent.
