In connection with her request for an investigation into the army’s alleged use of chemical weapons against Kurdish militants, the head of Turkey’s medical association was found guilty of creating propaganda for terrorists.

Despite receiving a term of over three years in prison, Dr. Sebnem Korur Fincanci is eligible for parole under Turkish legislation.

After being detained for more than two months, she is anticipated to be released on Wednesday.

According to rights organizations, her incarceration was an attempt to silence her and other campaigners.

Ms. Fincanci, a forensic expert and prominent human rights advocate, was detained after she demanded an impartial investigation into allegations that the Turkish military attacked Kurdish terrorists in northern Iraq with illegal chemical weapons.

She made the remarks on Kurdish-friendly media.

Video purportedly depicting Turkish troops discharging a material into a cave and the impact it had on a male and female combatant was released by the PKK in October.

The PKK is regarded by the EU and the US as a terrorist organization. The group named 17 of its members who, according to the organization, had lately died from such weapons.

The PKK was allegedly attacked with chemical weapons by the Turkish government, and Ms. Fincanci was charged with promoting terrorist propaganda and defaming Turkey.

Following just three sessions, and without what her attorneys claim to be due process, she was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison on Wednesday.

Turkey does not frequently impose prison terms of less than three years, though.

At her final hearing, Ms. Fincanci made a brief statement to the court in which she claimed that her trial was politically motivated and was intended to attack free speech and democratic principles.
