The statement was made on Wednesday by the World Health Organization and the government of Uganda. Ruth Aceng, the minister of health, told reporters that no new instances had been reported in the previous 42 days.

Since the epidemic was declared in September, 142 cases, including 56 deaths, have been reported in Uganda. Contrary to the Zaire variant of the Ebola virus, which has recently caused outbreaks in the adjacent Congo, the Sudan strain has no known vaccine.

This outbreak was the first of the less frequent Sudan strain in ten years.
