14 trucks bringing humanitarian aid crossed the border from Turkey into northwest Syria, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

According to spokesman Paul Dillon, the relief was headed for Idlib and included “electric heaters, tents, blankets and other supplies to assist these individuals who have been displaced as a result of this tragic earthquake.”

Northwest contested by opposition Nearly 2 million internally displaced refugees reside in Syria.

According to the WFP, food supplies are running low, and new crossings into NW Syria are required.

The World Food Program has pleaded for the opening of new corridors between Syria and Turkey because it claims to be running out of supplies in opposition-held northwest Syria.

“We have reached the people there, but we need to replenish our stocks,” Corinne Fleischer, WFP regional director in the Middle East, Northern Africa and Eastern Europe, told reporters. “We are running out of stocks and we need access to bring new stocks in. The border crossing is open now, but we need to get new border crossings open.”

The sole crossing between the two nations now recognized by the UN is Bab al-Hawa.

The road leading up to the border was damaged, according to the UN, which caused a delay in the first convoy entering Syria on Thursday.

The Turkish government claims to have given permission for aid to pass through two more crossings, but UN officials said Bab al-Hawa was still the only practical option.
