Democratic principles, respect for rule of law central to Pak-US ties: Blinken
Several nations across the world have been informed about the United States’ discovery of China’s surveillance balloon, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday.
At a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Blinken added that he had spoken with Stoltenberg about the strategic and operational difficulties China poses for the alliance.
Blinken stated that as recovery efforts advanced, the United States was learning more “nearly by the hour” about the balloon that it shot down on Saturday. Relevant information would be shared with the US Congress as well as U.S. allies and partners across the world, he added.
According to Stoltenberg, the Chinese balloon’s flight demonstrated a pattern of behavior on the part of the Chinese people and demonstrated the ongoing danger from Chinese intelligence activity. Additionally, he claimed that China was covert “significantly” enhancing its military capabilities, particularly its nuclear arsenal.
Blinken responded when asked if Chinese President Xi Jinping was aware of the balloon flights:
“As to who’s responsible for that, China is. And it doesn’t matter on one level, which individuals may or may not have been responsible. The fact is China engaged in this irresponsible action, a violation of our sovereignty and territorial integrity and international law.”
