French teacher killed by student who claimed to ‘be possessed’
Authorities said that a juvenile pupil killed a teacher at a school in southwest France on Wednesday.
According to French government spokesperson Olivier Veran, the 50-year-old female instructor passed away from wounds caused by the 16-year-old attacker.
According to media, the attacker was a teenager with mental health issues who stabbed the teacher in the chest and claimed to be “possessed.”
According to media, after the attack in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the attacker ran into a nearby room and told a teacher that a voice had instructed him to carry out the attack. According to media, the instructor seized the student’s weapon and stayed with him until the cops showed up.
According to the local prefecture, the incident happened at the Saint-Thomas d’Aquin high school in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques area of southwestern France.
Veran expressed his sympathies to the victims of the tragedy.
“I can hardly imagine the trauma that this can represent, locally and more generally on a national scale,” Veran told journalists Wednesday, adding on Twitter that there are “no words to describe the tragedy.”
According to a tweet from the French minister of education, he will be “without delay” at the scene.
