Turkey reports at least 120 aftershocks following large earthquake
The massive earthquake that struck southern Turkey on Monday has been followed by at least 120 aftershocks, according to an update from Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD).
Call to mind: Every aftershock is a distinct earthquake. However, they are regarded as aftershocks as long as they are not more powerful than the original, major earthquake.
Separately, at least 43 aftershocks of magnitude 4.3 or higher were reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), which only records the more powerful aftershocks that are genuinely felt by people in the earthquake zone.
According to USGS, three of the aftershocks had magnitudes of 6.0 or higher, including the powerful 7.5 quake that occurred 95 kilometers (59 miles) north of the epicenter of the morning’s major earthquake.
