A woman from the United States who was reported missing more than 30 years ago and ultimately pronounced dead has been found alive in a nursing home in Puerto Rico, according to the Guardian. Patricia Kopta, now 82 years old, was last observed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1992. Authorities were unable to find her, therefore they later proclaimed her dead.

It turned out that she had been discovered in 1999, lost in the streets of northern Puerto Rico. She was identified by a social worker and is currently residing in a nursing facility on a Caribbean island after being diagnosed with dementia.

Mrs. Kopta, who was formerly well-known in her hometown as a street preacher, first kept her background a secret while living in Puerto Rico. Yet as her dementia got worse, she started talking more and more about her past. Authorities in Pennsylvania were contacted by nursing home workers who were successful in making a connection. Her identification could be verified using Genetic tests, according to Ross Township police.

She was exhibiting some symptoms of schizophrenia, according to doctors, before she left Pennsylvania. She was also briefly institutionalised after being given the “delusions of grandeur” diagnosis by medical professionals.

She was worried about being institutionalised. Which is what we think motivated her to leave the nation,” officials stated on Friday.

Before she vanished, her husband Bob Kopta claimed they had been wed for 20 years. Yet Mr. Kopta never got remarried.

You have no idea what we have gone through. At a news conference on Thursday, Mr. Kopta said, “It’s such a relief to hear she’s alive.

Mrs. Kopta has two sisters: a younger sister and her twin, who passed away six years ago. Gloria Smith, her surviving sister, exclaimed, “Shock. I refused to believe it. Utter astonishment,” she reportedly exclaimed upon hearing the news.

She also mentioned that before being married, Ms. Kopta frequently travelled to Puerto Rico with her friends.
