The manslaughter of a newborn named Victoria has been brought against a couple who have been remanded in custody.

According to testimony given in court, the child’s bones were discovered in a plastic bag hidden beneath diapers in a shed in Brighton.

Along with perverting the course of justice, Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were accused of hiding the birth of a child.

The baby, whose name was given in court filings, was found on Wednesday after a thorough search.

On March 31, Ms. Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, will make their Old Bailey debuts.

The couple merely spoke during the brief hearing on Friday at Crawley Magistrates’ Court to confirm their names, birthdates, and the fact that they had no fixed address.

After a 53-day hunt for the missing persons that ended in an East Sussex forested area, they were first detained on Monday.

To find the child, hundreds of officers were dispatched along with sniffer dogs, thermal cameras, helicopters, and drones.

On Friday, there was supposed to be a post-mortem examination.

Authorities had earlier stated that it was “too early” to speculate on the baby’s passing or the couple’s sex.

The baby died while the Metropolitan Police was conducting a missing persons investigation, so it reported the issue to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
