  • Wagner plans to recruit 30,000 new combatants by mid-May.
  • Including mercenaries from athletic clubs, boxing gyms.
  • And other gyms, as well as foreign fighters.

Yevgeny Prigozhin ,the leader of Russia’s Wagner private military company, declared that he intends to enlist roughly 30,000 new combatants by mid-May.

Wagner allegedly hires 500 to 800 workers on average per day, with some days seeing as many as 1,200, according to Prigozhin.

“It is possible that this number of recruits may decrease after some time; however, by the middle of May, we plan that the number of fighters of the unit will increase by approximately 30,000,” Prigozhin said in an audio message published on Telegram.

Wagner reportedly began recruiting efforts in 42 Russian cities last week, according to Prigozhin.

In particular, Wagner has concentrated on enlisting mercenaries from athletic clubs, boxing gyms, and other gyms, as well as guys who have already finished six-month contracts and may be eligible for rehire. Wagner has also enlisted a few fighters from abroad.

Wagner said earlier that it ceased recruiting inmates in January.

As many as 40,000 combatants for Wagner were recruited through the well-publicized and broad prison recruitment operation last year.

Nonetheless, it is thought that a large number of the private military group’s trainees were killed or injured in the fierce combat that erupted near the eastern city of Bakhmut.
