Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, aged 100, has been hospitalized after suffering a fall at his residence.

According to his aide, Sofi Yusof, Mahathir fell while moving from his balcony into a room on Tuesday. He was immediately transported by ambulance to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur for medical attention.

A subsequent statement confirmed that Mahathir sustained a fracture in his right hip. He is expected to remain in the hospital for several weeks under treatment and observation.

Malaysia’s current Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, and his wife offered prayers for Mahathir’s speedy recovery.

Mahathir, who celebrated his 100th birthday last July, has faced multiple health challenges in recent years, including fatigue-related hospitalization and prior heart bypass surgery.
