Amman (Jordan): Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in Amman on Wednesday for high-level talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, marking a significant diplomatic move following Israel’s deadly airstrike on the Qatari capital earlier this month.

The visit comes just days after Doha hosted an emergency Arab and Islamic summit, during which regional leaders united in condemning the September 9 Israeli strike that hit a residential area in Doha, killing six people. The Qatari government labeled the attack as “blatant, treacherous and cowardly,” accusing Israel of targeting Hamas operatives in violation of Qatar’s sovereignty.

Upon arrival, the emir was received by King Abdullah II, Crown Prince Hussein, and senior Jordanian officials at Queen Alia International Airport. It is his first visit to Jordan since the incident, and one that underscores growing regional tensions and the urgency of military coordination among Arab states.

A key outcome of the Doha summit was a renewed commitment from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to activate a joint defense mechanism—an initiative expected to be discussed in detail during the emir’s visit.

Bilateral talks between the Qatari and Jordanian leadership will center on enhancing military cooperation and crafting a unified Arab response ahead of next week’s United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

Both leaders are expected to condemn the Israeli strikes in upcoming speeches, reinforcing a call for international accountability.

The meeting will also address broader regional stability, including cooperation on issues in Syria and efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between Qatar and Jordan.
