Ex-Pakistan cricketers have raised questions about the omission of all-rounder Imad Wasim from the playing XI for the first T20I against New Zealand on Thursday.
Wasim, who recently came out of retirement, had returned to the national team following a notable performance in the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“Makes no sense to me, honestly, Imad should have played in place of Shadab Khan,” former Test cricketer Iqbal Qasim was reported as saying by Press Trust of India.
Mohsin Khan, a former player, head coach, and chief selector, also supported the inclusion of Amir and Imad in the playing XI.
“So much hue and cry over bringing back Imad and Amir and they must get maximum matches to overcome their rustiness in international cricket,” he stated.
The inaugural match of the five-T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand was abandoned after just two balls due to continuous rain in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
However, according to The Weather Channel, the likelihood of rain has decreased ahead of the second T20I between the two teams on Saturday.
The probability of rain on April 20 is significantly lower at 24 percent, compared to yesterday’s 49 percent for the same day.
Meanwhile, it appears likely that spectators will be able to enjoy a full match on Sunday, when the third T20I is scheduled, as the weather forecast predicts clear skies with only a 12 percent chance of rain.
