IPL 2024 Final: KKR lift trophy for third time after defeaing SRH
In the 2024 IPL final held in Chennai, the Kolkata Knight Riders emerged victorious over the Sunrisers Hyderabad with a comfortable eight-wicket win.
The Hyderabad team was restricted to the finals’ lowest-ever score of 113, thanks to a stellar bowling performance by Australia’s Starc, who took 2 wickets for 14 runs.
Starc concluded the season with remarkable bowling, notably his 3 wickets for 34 runs in the first Qualifier against Hyderabad.
Kolkata’s chase was smooth, with only Narine falling early. Gurbaz contributed 39 runs, while Venkatesh Iyer remained not out at 52, forging a 91-run partnership and securing the win with more than 9 overs left.
Iyer’s swift 50 off 24 balls culminated in scoring the winning runs, leading to celebrations for Kolkata’s second championship win at this venue since 2012.
Earlier in the day, Hyderabad’s captain Cummins opted to bat after winning the toss, a decision influenced by their high-scoring performances earlier in the season.
Starc, however, quickly became the center of attention by taking a wicket in his opening over, removing the well-set Sharma for just two runs.
Head was dismissed for a duck by Arora, and Starc’s continued assault left Hyderabad struggling at 47-4 after seven overs.
Russell took out Markram for 20 and continued to dismantle the batting line-up, including Klaasen for 16.
Cummins himself managed to cross the 100-run mark before falling to Russell, who ended with impressive figures of 3-19.
