Usama Mir, the Pakistani leg-spinner, contacted PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi directly after not being selected for the T20 World Cup 2024 team.

A report from local media indicated that Mir pointed out his top wicket-taker status in the ninth PSL season in his communication with Naqvi. This move, however, did not sit well with selector and team manager Wahab Riaz.

Mir had the opportunity to argue his case and review his performance during a virtual meeting with Wahab and other selectors in Ireland.

The report also mentioned that Mir was initially granted an NOC to play in England’s T20 Blast but was subsequently denied. His three-year central contract with the PCB allows for participation in two franchise T20 leagues besides the PSL. Due to this limitation, he could not play in additional T20 leagues during his contract term from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.

Since he was not part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup team, Mir was prepared to join Worcestershire Rapids for the T20 Blast and intended to be available for the entire duration of the tournament.
