WHO identifies fake pharmaceutical raw material supply in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: World Health Organization (WHO) has identified the supply of fake raw materials for drug manufacturing in Pakistan.
The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued pictures and warning message of fake propylene glycol, an important ingredient in various medications is being supplied by unscrupulous elements, and two batches of the chemical were counterfeit.
According to the DRAP, the supply of fake raw materials of medicine was revealed in Pakistan, after which regulatory body issued pictures and warning message of fake propylene glycol.
DRAP said that WHO has identified fake drug raw material supply, nefarious elements supplying fake propylene glycol badges.
The letter said that 2 badges of Dowerup label of Propylene Glycol are fake, one badge of Doochemical company label of propylene glycol is fake, pharma industry uses Propylene Glycol as raw material and it is used in alternative medicines, solutions.
DRAP said that counterfeit propylene glycol should not be used in pharmaceuticals, as its formulation is harmful to human health.
According to the letter, companies should recall medicines manufactured with fake propylene glycol badges and pharma companies should purchase quality raw materials from authorized institutions, and field force should act on reports of fake propylene glycol badges.
