Govt mulling deploying Rangers in Islamabad’s Red Zone
ISLAMABAD: The federal government is considering deploying Rangers for enhanced security in Islamabad’s red zone, according to sources on Thursday.
Paramilitary forces will remain in the capital until the conclusion of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which Pakistan is set to host on October 15-16.
Sources revealed that Rangers personnel will be stationed around key government buildings and along internal roads within the red zone. This area contains the nation’s highest executive, judicial, and legislative offices, as well as foreign embassies and missions.
A security plan for the summit was approved on Wednesday during a meeting led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who confirmed that several heads of state and government would attend the event.
