Lahore ranks second in most polluted cities of world
LAHORE: The Lahore has been engulfed in smog since Sunday night and on Monday morning it became the second most polluted city in the world with an air quality index (AQI) of 382.
Delhi, the capital of India, ranks first in the list of most polluted cities.
Due to smog, the Punjab government has closed schools from class 1 to class 5 in Lahore for a week from today.
Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said that the issues of smog can be improved only through dialogue with India.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that those who violate the smog SOPs will be prosecuted.
Earlier, Punjab government announced the closure of primary schools in Lahore for one week in response to the worsening smog and deteriorating air quality in the city.
The schools will close from November 4 to 9, according to a notification from Punjab’s Environment Department.
The decision comes as Lahore grapples with severe air pollution levels that have soared to alarming heights, affecting the health of residents, particularly children. Lahore consistently ranks among the most polluted cities globally, prompting urgent action from authorities.
