Bill Murray shared his reasoning for playing complicated characters, explaining that it is rewarding for the veteran star. He discussed this topic when he appeared at the Sundance Film Festival.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the performer reflected on his career in the Elvis Suite presented by Darlings & Co. The actor, pointing to his life in a vague sense, shared, “It’s always interesting when you’re playing a guy who has done some damage.”

He mentioned having “done some damage,” adding, “It’s unconscious damage, but it’s some sort of penance to play them and to show that, you know, to show accepting responsibility for it.” To explain what he meant, he gave the example of the movie “On The Rocks”, according to the source.

He stated that he answered multiple things through that character. The movie, released in 2020, centers on a grown woman and her relationship with her father, who is emotionally distant and a playboy.

Although the actor didn’t discuss any scandals during his chat at the aforementioned event, it’s important to note that his professional career has reportedly been on pause since 2022. That year, while filming “Being Mortal”, an incident occurred. According to the publication, Searchlight Pictures halted the production of the film following complaints about the actor’s inappropriate behavior on set with a young female assistant.

According to the publication, Murray mentioned that, following the incident, he did something he thought was hilarious, but it was not received that way. The actor explained that the movie studio and the company wanted to do the right thing, so they paused the production. He added that, as of now, they are discussing and attempting to “make peace” with one another.
