Another polio case detected in Pakistan
ISALMABAD: The National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has confirmed Pakistan’s 13th polio case of 2025, reported from Tank district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the Polio Laboratory at the National Institute of Health, the affected child is an 18-month-old girl.
The EOC stated that certain areas in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain hard to access, posing challenges to vaccination efforts. However, collaborative efforts are underway with provincial and district administrations to reach every child.
The National EOC has urged parents to take the threat of the virus seriously and ensure that their children receive polio drops in every campaign.
It further stressed the importance of timely completion of routine immunization schedules to protect children from polio and other preventable diseases.
So far in 2025, 7 cases have been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 4 from Sindh, and 1 each from Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.
It is worth mentioning that just a few weeks ago, the Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme had confirmed the presence of the poliovirus in 47 environmental samples collected from various parts of the country.
