ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik has said that the monsoon season is coming to an end, but thousands of villages are still underwater, and 900 people have lost their lives due to floods and rains.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Federal Minister Musadik Malik, he warned that a major flood wave is currently at Guddu Barrage and another at Panjnad. He said authorities have evacuated 2.4 million people in Punjab and over 150,000 people in Sindh, and more evacuations may follow.

Malik stressed that the situation is a warning from nature, adding that some areas experienced flash floods for the first time ever. He urged the government to start preparations for the next monsoon now.

Federal Minister Musadik Malik said Pakistan is among the most climate-affected countries and noted that the prime minister has declared a climate emergency to deal with the crisis. He added that charities and private organizations are actively providing relief to affected communities.
