ICC penalizes Suryakumar Yadav for Political remarks
DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) fined Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav 30% of his match fee for violating the Code of Conduct. The punishment followed his making of political statements, which are not permitted under ICC rules.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had officially complained about his remarks. Match referee Richie Richardson gave the verdict against Yadav. India has filed an appeal against the decision.
In the same match, the ICC also acted against Pakistani players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan. Haris received a 20% fine on his match fee and a warning for making hand gestures, while Farhan was warned for waving his bat like a gun after scoring his fifty. Both were found guilty of Level One offences.
The incidents happened during the Asia Cup match against India. Haris had made a “0-6” gesture, and Farhan celebrated his half-century with a gun-style bat move.
