Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed all applicable authorities to begin early preparations for upcoming monsoon to minimize the risk of any casualties
He issued these guidelines while chairing a review meeting in Islamabad today, where officials mentioned the final year’s weather change damages and the mitigation plan for the upcoming monsoon. During the briefing, the prime minister approved the Ministry of Climate alternate’s short-term plan and ordered its immediate implementation.
PM Shehbaz emphasized that the Ministry of Climate Change, the Ministry of Planning, and the NDMA must work closely with provincial governments to develop a secure and complete strategy to tackle climate-related challenges. He also called for arrangements to convene a meeting of the National Water Council to plan a countrywide plan for advanced water control.
Speaking at the meeting, the prime minister noted that Pakistan is a developing country, yet it has to repeatedly divert a significant portion of its GDP every few years to deal with the harmful effects of climate change. He stressed that Pakistan contributes very little to global emissions but continues to suffer the most from their consequences.
Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Dr Musadik Malik, Attaullah Tarar, and different senior officials were also present during the meeting.
