Islamabad: President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has approved the de-notification of Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri from his position as a judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), following a court ruling that declared his appointment unlawful.
The approval was granted on the advice of the Prime Minister after the Islamabad High Court ruled that Justice Jahangiri did not possess a valid LL.B. degree at the time of his appointment, rendering him ineligible to hold judicial office. The court subsequently directed him to vacate the post.
A day earlier, a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court had declared Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri ineligible in the degree verification case.
Following this verdict, the process for his de-notification was initiated, culminating in the President’s approval.
